History

  • Originally a member of the Mideast Region of AAMFC which included Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucy

Strategic Plan

Core Purpose

Recognizing that relationships are fundamental to the health and well-being of individuals, families and communities, OAMFT exists to advance the profession of marriage and family therapy. 

Core Values

Goals

~ 3-5 Year Planning Horizon ~

Promotion of the Profession:  MFTs will have the same rights, benefits and responsibilities as other mental health professionals. 

Continuing Education and Career Development:  MFTs will be well-trained and positioned to meet current and emerging practice needs.

Public Policy and Recognition:  Marriage and Family Therapy will be known by policy makers, other professions and the public as a leading and respected mental health profession. 

Organizational Performance:  OAMFT will continue to provide benefits for its members. 

Objectives

~ 3-5 Year Planning Horizon ~

 1.             Goal: Promotion of the Profession

MFTs will have the same rights, benefits and responsibilities as other mental health professionals.

 Objectives:

1.1.  Ensure that Ohio authorizes MFTs to diagnose and treat.

1.2.  Expand delivery system acceptance and practice opportunities for MFTs by initiating the work of the    Liaison Committee.

1.3. Secure inclusion of MFTs in Ohio’s Department of Health Matrix of Providers.

1.4. Integrate portability of license into future legislative and regulatory proposals.

 

2.             Goal: Continuing Education and Career Development

MFTs will be well-trained and positioned to meet current and emerging mental health trends and practice needs.

Objectives:

2.1. Disseminate information to enhance MFT clinical competence.

2.2. Provide quality continuing education programs for MFTs that set the standard for the field.

2.3. Contribute to quality of MFT graduate training by providing students the opportunity to present at state conferences.

2.4. Influence and support the increase of research-informed clinical practice. 

 

3.             Goal: Public Policy and Recognition

Marriage and Family Therapy will be known by policy makers, other professions and the public as a leading and respected mental health profession.

Objectives:

3.1. Increase public awareness of MFTs as qualified, comprehensive mental health professionals.

3.2. Increase public awareness of marriage and family therapy as a legitimate and effective treatment for a wide array of disorders and systemic problems.

3.3. Increase use of MFT research, consultation, and testimony to governmental and corporate decision makers.

3.4. Increase the representation of MFTs on public and private boards, commissions, and agencies.

 

4.             Goal: Organizational Performance

OAMFT will continue to provide benefits to its members.

Objectives:

4.1. Provide support, educational opportunities and services that enhance members' ability to practice effectively (as acknowledged by members).

4.2  Build confidence within the association that OAMFT is an open and inclusive culture.

4.3.  Recruit and develop a diverse group of new organizational leaders throughout OAMFT.

4.4.   Be informed regarding trends and developments in family therapy.

4.5  Be informed regarding state regulation of marriage and family therapy.
