The OAMFT Board and Conversion Therapy

Over the past several meetings the OAMFT Board has been prompted by members to discuss the issue of Conversion Therapy. All of the major Mental Health Associations have taken the position that such therapies, which seek to help homosexual clients to become heterosexual, are harmful and not evidenced based forms of treatment. In Ohio a move is building to ban such therapy practice in regards to minors.

After a thorough discussion, the OAMFT Board agreed to join those calling for a ban on the practice of Conversion Therapy.  We have communicated with the State regulatory Board via letter to make clear our position.   There are currently two bills proposed in the Ohio legislature that we are watching and would support as well.

OAMFT 2015 Scholarship Program Accepting Applications

 

OAMFT’s Scholarship program is accepting applications for 2015.Applicants are required to be AAMFT members. The OAMFT Scholarship program is offered to AAMFT members to defray some of the costs of the Ohio MFT licensure exam. In addition this program offers reimbursement for supervision costs associated with licensure. OAMFT Board is offering this fund to assist those individuals who want to join the OAMFT family in Ohio.

The Board established a scholarship fund beginning 2014 and has allocated up to $1,000 a year to be granted in $200 increments. Chrysalis Counseling Center Inc., a private practice, is looking for a part time or full time licensed marriage family therapist/counselor. Chrysalis Counseling Center Inc. was established twenty years ago and is located in New Philadelphia, Ohio.  Being in a rural community, Chrysalis Counseling Center has the opportunity to collaborate with other systems in the community on a regular basis. Tuscarawas County is a vibrant, growing community with much room for creativity. Services provided include individual, couple, family and group counseling, co-parenting sessions, chemical dependency assessments and treatment, clinical hypnosis, clinical supervision, EMDR, divorce education, and three hour intensives. Currently our clinical team consists of a child psychologist and eleven therapists.  
 
Requirements
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
Experience working with children and their families is required. 
Therapists can set their own schedules. Two evenings a week minimum are required.

ICFT:
