The OAMFT Board and Conversion Therapy

Over the past several meetings the OAMFT Board has been prompted by members to discuss the issue of Conversion Therapy. All of the major Mental Health Associations have taken the position that such therapies, which seek to help homosexual clients to become heterosexual, are harmful and not evidenced based forms of treatment. In Ohio a move is building to ban such therapy practice in regards to minors.

After a thorough discussion, the OAMFT Board agreed to join those calling for a ban on the practice of Conversion Therapy.  We have communicated with the State regulatory Board via letter to make clear our position.   There are currently two bills proposed in the Ohio legislature that we are watching and would support as well.
